Another successful rescue in the waters of the Punta Campanella Marine Reserve. A turtle of the species Caretta caretta It was recovered off the coast of Tordigliano, in zone C of the Reserve, thanks to the intervention of the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area (AMP) and the Macchia Mediterranea association.
The turtle, a large adult female weighing about 50 kg, had been spotted the day before by a boater. The animal appeared almost immobile and in obvious difficulty. The report immediately alerted the Punta Campanella MPA, which launched a rapid recovery operation. Fortunately, the turtle showed no signs of impact trauma, but was nevertheless transferred to the Marine Turtle Research Center of the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station to perform all the necessary tests and ascertain its health status.
The authorities and associations involved thanked the boaters who promptly reported the presence of the turtle in difficulty, underlining the importance of everyone's collaboration to protect this fragile species. Even small gestures like a report can make a difference in protecting marine fauna and safeguarding the delicate marine ecosystem of the area.
