An initiative with significant social impact began this morning at the Secondigliano prison, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the prison's director, Giulia Russo, the Diocese of Naples, and Mario Rubino, president of Kimbo. The project, called "A Grain of Hope," aims to train ten inmates, providing them with the tools necessary for future reintegration into society.
Mario Rubino explained that the idea was born from Kimbo's deep bond with the city: "We are the coffee of Naples, and we believe it is right to give something back to the city, starting with the weakest, the inmates of the Secondigliano prison. We will train them as best we can to prepare them for a new life."
The project is divided into three main axes: professional training as baristas or maintenance technicians, the creation of a dedicated laboratory and the cultivation of land to produce a special coffee, a symbol of rebirth. “The café will be called 'Caffè di Secondigliano', and will be the fruit of the work of the inmates”, added Rubino.
“It will take time for the coffee to be ready, but we are planting a seed of hope in a place that needs it so much. We want this field to become a symbol of rebirth, our ‘field of miracles’.” The director of the prison, Giulia Russo, underlined the importance of the project for the re-educational mission of the penitentiary administration: “Through initiatives like this, we want to transform prisoners into citizens. Today, we are planting a real seed of hope.”
