Nine other prison officers have been reinstated in connection with the events that occurred in April 2020 at the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison in the province of Caserta.
The USPP announced the news, with President Giuseppe Moretti and Secretary Ciro Auricchio expressing their satisfaction with the measure.
"More than four and a half years after the alleged incidents, the colleagues suspended since 2021 have faced serious financial hardship, with significantly reduced salaries," they stated.
The two unionists added that they believed the measures were too severe, and that the ongoing trial could end with less serious outcomes than the initial charges, given the possible lack of sufficient evidence.
"We believe that our action has contributed to this result, and it is essential to consider the serious and persistent problems of the prison system, such as overcrowding and staff shortages," Moretti and Auricchio emphasized.
