In a joint operation, the Guardia di Finanza of Bologna, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office and Public Prosecutor Stefano Dambruoso, struck a blow to a corrupt system that guaranteed the issuing of high school diplomas in an illicit manner.
The investigation, which lasted for months, uncovered a criminal organization that, through a training center based in Bologna, offered poorly prepared students the opportunity to fraudulently obtain their high school diploma.
The fraudulent system
The mechanism was simple but effective: students, attracted by the promise of a degree without the effort required, paid a sum of money equal to approximately 3.000 euros, well above the costs foreseen by current legislation.
In exchange, they were directed to compliant private schools, located in Fermo and Portici, where, regardless of their actual skills, they were guaranteed to pass the state exams.
The investigations and the results
The Guardia di Finanza, through wiretaps, documentary analysis and testimonies, have reconstructed in detail the operating methods of the criminal organization.
Indisputable evidence emerged of falsification of class attendance, alteration of grades, and creation of false attendance certificates. In addition, numerous accounting documents were seized, allowing the volume of illicit business generated by the system to be quantified.
