Pozzuoli and Campi Flegrei were hit by a slight earthquake during the night. The earthquake, of magnitude 1.6, was recorded at 3:06 with its epicenter in via Vecchia San Gennaro, at a depth of 1,6 kilometers. Just a few minutes earlier, at 3:02, another slight earthquake, of magnitude 1, had hit the same area.
According to data provided by the Vesuvius Observatory and the monitoring room of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in Naples, 28 small, low-intensity seismic events have been detected in the Phlegraean area in recent weeks. These phenomena are part of a constant, albeit slight, seismic activity that characterizes the volcanic area of Campi Flegrei.
Interesting is the recent observation of a slowdown in ground uplift, a phenomenon that has caused concern in recent months. Since August, the average rate of uplift in the Rione Terra area has dropped to about 10 mm per month, with an overall increase of 15 cm since the beginning of the year.
As for the monitored geochemical parameters, no significant variations have been recorded. The temperature sensor located at the main fumarole of Pisciarelli continues to detect values around 95°C, indicative of the condensation of fumarolic fluids. This constancy in the values confirms that, at the moment, the volcanic activity in the area does not show signs of imminent escalation.
