Villa San Michele's cultural season continues. On Sunday, September 8th, at 8:00 PM, the Filrò Association, in collaboration with the Axel Munthe Foundation, returns to Villa San Michele for the second consecutive year with Giacomo Puccini's masterpiece, Tosca, presenting a new, immersive, touring version. This extraordinary event will actively engage the audience, experiencing the protagonists' emotions and dramas firsthand in a timeless, evocative setting.
A Tribute to Puccini on the Centenary of His Death
This year, the choice of opera is particularly significant, as it marks the centenary of the death of the great Tuscan composer, Giacomo Puccini. To celebrate this anniversary, Tosca is presented in a shorter form, lasting an hour and a half, which however maintains intact all the characteristics that make the opera great: sumptuous costumes, plays of light, evocative scenography and passionate interpretations.
Direction and staging by Filippo Rotondo
Filippo Rotondo's direction offers a new reading of the famous opera, focusing in particular on the personal stories of the protagonists. The realism, desired by Puccini himself and enhanced by this staging, transforms Tosca into an authentic thriller, capable of capturing the audience's attention with intense moments of suspense and a raw and profound representation of human emotions.
A Traveling Stage in the Splendid Villa San Michele
The splendid Villa San Michele becomes a traveling stage for the occasion, where each scene comes to life in a different space, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in both the action and the unique environments of the villa. Spectators will be guided on an emotional journey, experiencing each scene as if they were an integral part of the story, on a journey through love, betrayal and passion.
Magnificent Historical Costumes
Adding to the fascination of this experience are the magnificent historical costumes created by Vincenzo Canzanella. His sartorial creations, carefully crafted to evoke the era in which the story takes place, contrast in a fascinating way with the innovative cinematic style of the staging, creating a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.
The Cast and Musical Direction
The cast of this production includes: Giuseppe Famularo, musical director and pianist, who will lead the musical performance; Filippo Rotondo, in addition to directing, will play the role of Scarpia; Ginevra Martalò will be the protagonist in the role of Tosca and Hayk Vardanyan will play the role of Cavaradossi.

The Filrò Association
FILRŌ was born from the desire to create a widespread network to involve young singers, directors, set designers, musicians and artists who gravitate around the world of Opera with entities interested in promoting culture, creating new formats, capable of transmitting the values of this art form to the general public. At the same time, it wants to offer institutions and places that promote culture the opportunity to tell their spaces, history and heritage through a new language. The company includes collaborations with important Italian and foreign cultural institutions and has a series of active projects including "Così Fan Lirica", which brings operas in scenic form to new public and private contexts and "Liricando" which wants to spread Opera in schools through workshops and reduced staging to bring young students closer to opera.
