A shocking incident has shocked the community of Portici: a lifesaving device essential to a three-year-old girl suffering from type 1 spinal muscular atrophy, a rare and serious disease, was stolen. The device, essential for clearing the child's airways, was contained in a case temporarily left at the entrance to the building by the girl's family while they were transferring her from the car to her wheelchair.
The theft occurred in a few moments and plunged the family into despair. The device, in addition to being vital for the little girl, contains the parameters established by the doctors at the hospital in Rome who are following her, making it a personalized and irreplaceable device. The news was made public by the parliamentarian of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra, Francesco Borrelli, who launched an appeal for the immediate return of the machine.
"The thief should demonstrate his conscience and return the device. This little girl, who is already fighting a very tough battle for her health, doesn't deserve to suffer the damage inflicted by a criminal," said Borrelli, flanked by Aldo Agnello, a Europa Verde municipal councilor in Portici.
