In a joint operation, the Coast Guard and the Guardia di Finanza have put an end to the illegal occupation of a large maritime state-owned area in the popular resort of Vico Equense.

Approximately 300 square meters of beach, removed from public use and the natural balance of the coastline, have been cleared of illegally installed material, such as sunbeds, umbrellas and various structures.

The illegal activity, in addition to constituting an economic damage for the local community, as it took resources away from the municipality and the treasury, represented a serious threat to the coastal ecosystem.

The illegal installation of bathing facilities, in fact, contributes to the erosion of dunes, the disappearance of spontaneous flora and the alteration of natural habitats, with serious repercussions on marine fauna and water quality.

The person responsible for the illegal occupation was reported to the judicial authorities for the appropriate sanctions, while the Guardia di Finanza has started the procedures for the recovery of the evaded sums as state property fees.

Today's operation represents a clear signal of intolerance towards any form of illegality that damages our environmental heritage and compromises the sustainability of tourism.

The institutions will continue to constantly monitor compliance with the regulations on maritime state property, in order to guarantee the fair and conscious use of the common good by all citizens.
