Sorrento hosted the awards ceremony of the prestigious Premio Penisola Sorrentina 2024, a major event in the Italian cinema and audiovisual sector. The event, held on October 25 at the Teatro Tasso, was inaugurated by Anna Foglietta with “M2 Filming Experience – Mezzogiorno e Mediterraneo”, as part of the thirtieth anniversary of the award.
The following day, the Correale Museum officially launched the 29th edition of the national film award, promoted by the Film Commission Regione Campania. The “Meet & Talk” preview involved prominent figures such as Pier Paolo Mocci and Luigi Lonigro (01 Distribution Rai Cinema – Anica), together with Francesco Branchetti and voice actor Luca Ward.
Prizes and Awards
During the event, numerous awards were presented, highlighting prominent figures in the Italian artistic scene. Among the awardees, Luca Ward opened the ceremony with his unmistakable voice from “The Gladiator”. Awards were also given to Luca Manfredi for directing the biopic on Paolo Villaggio, Pippo Balistreri for his contribution to the Sanremo Festival, Nadia Rinaldi as female character of the year, Maurizio Mattioli for his comedy, Luigi Lonigro for distribution and Mario Venuti with a lifetime achievement award. In a particularly significant moment, the Mayor of Sorrento, Massimo Coppola, paid homage to Ornella Muti with a special tribute for “Passioni ribelli”, the recital written especially for her by Vincenzo Iannone.
A Gala Evening
The gala evening, held with great elegance, was presented by the artistic director Mario Esposito together with the actress Francesca Cavallin. The Premio Penisola Sorrentina not only celebrates individual talent, but also reinforces the role of Sorrento as a cultural center of excellence in the Italian cinematographic panorama.
