From 21 to 31 October 2024, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast will host the Academy of Conservation and Care for the Environment (ACCE), an event that will feature eleven young professionals accompanied by experts in the fields of heritage management, architecture and archaeology. The initiative, which will take place in the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, provides an enriching exchange of knowledge between participants from international backgrounds including Chile, Germany, Jordan, Greece, Guatemala, India, Italy, Philippines, Tanzania, Tunisia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

A Program Rich in Activities
The Academy will focus on topics such as the cultural landscapes of Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast, heritage management, biodiversity, climate change, and community participation. Activities planned in Pompeii include introductory lectures that will be opened by the Director of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, Gabriel Zuchtriegel, at the Amedeo Maiuri Auditorium. There will also be workshops and guided tours, such as the one in the archaeological site with access to the excavation and restoration sites in the Insula dei Casti Amanti and in Regio IX.
International Collaborations and Focus on the Environment
The event, organized in collaboration with the Kompetenzzentrum Denkmalwissenschaften und Denkmaltechnologien (KDWT) of the University of Bamberg and the Fraunhofer-Institut für Bauphysik IBP Holzkirchen, is supported by the Alan and Linde Katritzky Foundation. The organizers plan to network for future ecological and cultural initiatives, also collaborating with the Petra Tourism Development Region Authority and the Jordanian company SELA. Activities include olive picking in the Casa della Nave Europa and a visit to the necropolis of Porta Nocera to monitor a clay barrier.
