Moments of tension yesterday morning on the Naples ring road, at Corso Malta, where a man in an evidently altered state of mind and body created panic among motorists.
The officers of the Fuorigrotta Traffic Police Subsection and the General Prevention and Public Rescue Office intervened promptly after a report reached the Operations Room.
Upon arrival, the police found a 34-year-old man of Malian origin with a criminal record brandishing a knife, threatening those present and attempting to self-harm.
Despite officers' attempts to calm the man, the situation quickly escalated. The 34-year-old continued to behave aggressively and, after a struggle with law enforcement, was eventually subdued and disarmed.
The man was arrested on charges of threats, personal injury and resisting a public official.
He was also reported for illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of causing offence. Thanks to the timely intervention of the officers, the situation was brought back under control without further consequences for those present.
