During a ceremony held in the Sala Arengario of the Palace of Justice, Aldo Policastro, former prosecutor of Benevento, was inaugurated in the role of Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Naples.
Maria Rosaria Covelli, President of the Court of Appeal, stressed the importance of working in “transparency, independence and with constant and constructive dialogue” to obtain concrete results.
In his inaugural speech, Policastro said: “It is a great honor for me to take on this role in the largest Court of Appeal in Italy and Europe.” He recalled his previous commitment in Naples, promising to protect the rights of all, especially the most humble, and to follow the Constitution as his guide.
Policastro also touched on the issue of legislative reforms, lamenting the difficulty in applying the rules and the inequality in criminal law. He emphasized that investigations must be based on facts, not phenomena, and reflected on the conditions of Italian prisons, where drug dealing is widespread and where more must be done to ensure the humanity of punishment.
National Anti-Mafia Prosecutor Giovanni Melillo, present at the ceremony, described the day as “a beautiful day for Neapolitan justice,” praising Policastro’s deep knowledge of local problems and Neapolitan justice.
