The Bourbon Arch on Via Partenope in Naples is breathing new life after collapsing in 2021 due to a violent storm surge. Over the past two years, the area has been secured, and construction of a platform that will protect the historic structure from sea waves has now been completed.
After three years of waiting, restoration work on the arch has finally begun, funded with approximately one million euros by the Port Authority, thanks to a project approved by the Superintendency of Cultural Heritage.

"Finally, it's about time. We can rejoice, but only halfway. The arch should have been protected before, not after, the collapse. Even before the 2021 storm surge, we raised the alarm about the arch's precarious condition, requesting intervention from the Port Authority, then led by a different president. Unfortunately, the response was deathly silence and total inaction.", commented Francesco Emilio Borrelli, MP for the Green-Side Alliance, during an inspection of the site.
The restoration work is expected to be completed by mid-2025. Borrelli He announced that he will closely monitor the progress of the work to ensure there are no delays and stressed the importance of also proceeding with the work on the Bourbon pier, located near the broken column.
