Comicon from NAPLES travels to South Korea to bring Italian comics to Bicof, the Bucheon International Comics Festival, starting tomorrow, and continue the celebrations of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Korea.
The Korean stage of the comics festival, which takes place every year in NAPLES and for the last two years in Bergamo, continues the twinning with South Korea, born at Comicon NAPLES 2024, where Korea was the protagonist with a delegation of artists, professionals, exhibitions, chefs and companies that brought Korean culture to the festival program.
From tomorrow to October 6th, Comicon will be present with a delegation that will meet the institutions and local authorities and will collaborate with the Korean festival to design and promote the next twinning initiatives.
The delegation will also include the musician, cartoonist and frontman of the band Foja Dario Sansone, the director and illustrator Marino Guarnieri (Gatta Cenerentola) and the master of comics Tanino Liberatore (Ranxerox).
The three artists will also be featured in three major exhibitions on Italian comics and animation (A Journey through Italian Comics: 12 Characters from 1910s to 2020s; Liberatore, the Michelangelo of Comics; MAD Dreams, Animation Art from the Heart of Naples). They will also participate in performances, drawing sessions, and meetings that will allow them to engage with the public and with their Korean colleagues and industry professionals.
In Korea, there is also space for gastronomic excellence, thanks to the support of the Campania Region, with a Campania delegation of chefs from APCI, the Professional Association of Italian Chefs, and the publishing houses J-Pop Manga and Jundo, leaders in Italy in the manhwa and webtoon publishing segment.
Among the events scheduled for Bicof 2024, two will be dedicated to Italian comics: on October 4th, Tanino Liberatore will be in conversation with the award-winning author of "Le malerbe," Keum Suk Gendry-Kim. On October 5th, Comicon will participate in the Global Webtoons Conference, with Matteo Stefanelli, artistic director of the Neapolitan event, holding a conference on digital comics in Italy.
The inauguration will take place tomorrow with the mayor of Bucheon and the Italian ambassador to Seoul, to whom the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, sent a video message of greetings. A drawing and music jam session with Tanino Liberatore and Dario Sansone will follow. All the exhibitions will remain open to visitors until April 2025 in the halls of the Korea Manhwa Museum.
