The president of the Province of Salerno, Franco Alfieri, was arrested this morning by finance police. Alfieri, also the mayor of Capaccio-Paestum, is involved in an investigation into corruption and interference with auction freedom.
The investigation, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza of Salerno and Eboli, concerned the awarding of public works contracts in Capaccio-Paestum, specifically street lighting. In addition to Alfieri, five other people were subject to precautionary measures.

The investigations led to the seizure of assets worth over 543 thousand euros. In particular - as stated in a note signed by the prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli - precautionary custody in prison was ordered against Franco Alfieri, current mayor of Capaccio Paestum and president of the Province of Salerno, as well as house arrest for Victor DeRosa ed Alfonso D'Auria respectively legal representative and special attorney of Dervit spa, Elvira Alfieri, legal representative of Alfieri Impianti S.rl and sister of the mayor, Andrew Campanile, employee of the municipality of Capaccio, part of the mayor's staff, and Carmine Greco technical manager of the municipality of Capaccio and Rup of the proceedings referred to in the disputes.
The investigation concerns the public lighting works in Capaccio
The investigations, conducted jointly by the Eboli Financial Police Group and the Salerno Financial Police Unit, concerned several contract award procedures, specifically the one for the upgrade, expansion, and energy efficiency improvement of the municipal public lighting system, and the one for the upgrade and energy requalification of the municipality's public street lighting, with LED lighting and automatic regulation, remote control, and management systems for the light flow. Both contracts were tendered by the Municipality of Capaccio-Paestum and awarded to Dervit Spa.
