The afternoon of Wednesday, October 9th, marked the conclusion of the third edition of "Cortincarcere," a significant initiative organized by the Benevento Criminal Court in collaboration with APS Libero Teatro. This project is closely linked to the ArTelesia Social Film Festival, an international competition dedicated to social cinema, now in its sixteenth year. The initiative benefited from the essential technical and logistical support of the prison administration and staff.
A New Gift for Inmates
In the context of this final event, the Criminal Chamber made a significant donation to the inmates: a new projector for the prison gym. This gesture represents a further step towards improving living conditions and educational opportunities within the penitentiary institution, offering inmates new spaces and tools for cultural and recreational activities.
Film Screening
“Desirè” A highlight of the meeting was the screening of the film “Desirè”, which saw the participation of the inmates involved in the film workshop. The film’s director, Mario Vezza, and the screenwriter, Fabrizio Nardi, were also present at the event. The film tells the moving story of a young Neapolitan woman of Nigerian origins who, finding herself in a criminal context, is imprisoned. The encounter with an educator, played by Enrico Lo Verso, guides her towards a personal rediscovery and pushes her to make decisions that can change her life.
A Moment of Sharing and Reflection
At the end of the screening, an engaging debate took place between the authors of the film and the inmates. Some of them, deeply touched by the educational message of the film, shared their personal experiences and hopes for a better future. This moment of discussion demonstrated how cinema can be a powerful tool for reflection and a stimulus for change.
Conclusion of the Cineforum
The “Cortincarcere” project has thus concluded, after having developed over the last few months, touching on various departments of the Benevento penitentiary facility. The film club involved inmates from the medium and high security departments, in addition to the “sex offender” department, creating a bridge between art, rehabilitation and social reintegration. This project confirms itself as a virtuous example of how culture and cinema can take on a central role in the recovery and personal reflection paths within prisons.
