The Campania Civil Protection, considering the current weather situation and the intensification of rainfall that is already causing critical situations in some municipalities of Campania, has extended, raised and extended the weather alert already in force to the entire regional territory.
Starting from 23.59pm, the alert will switch to Orange in zones 1 (Campania plain, Naples, islands, Vesuvian area) and 3 (Sorrento-Amalfi peninsula, Sarno mountains, Picentini mountains) and while the Yellow alert will be extended to all other zones.
This is the detailed picture: from 23.59pm today, October 18th to 23.59pm tomorrow, October 19th: Orange alert on zones 1 (Campania plain, Naples, islands, Vesuvian area) and 3 (Sorrento-Amalfi peninsula, Sarno mountains, Picentini mountains). From 23.59pm today, October 18th to 23.59pm tomorrow, October 19th: Yellow alert on the rest of the regional territory.
Currently in force and until 23.59pm today, the Yellow Alert remains in place for the following areas: 1 (Piana Campana, Naples, Islands, Vesuvian Area); 2 (Alto Volturno and Matese), 3 (Costiera Sorrentino-Amalfi, Monti di Sarno and Monti Picentini).
Precipitation will continue, therefore, throughout the day tomorrow and could also be of a strong thunderstorm nature. In the areas where the Arancione is in force, in particular, widespread hydrogeological instability could occur, with significant surface runoff also with transport of material and consequent flooding of the roads, possible sinkholes due to erosion phenomena, slope instability, landslides and falling rocks.
This also takes into account the rainfall already underway and the consequent saturation of the soil. In the areas affected by the Yellow level alert there will be a localized hydrogeological instability. Flooding, water flow on the roads, flooding and falling rocks will still be possible.
The competent authorities are advised to activate or keep the COC (Municipal Operations Centers) active and to implement all measures to prevent, counteract and mitigate the expected phenomena. Pay attention to the warnings issued by the Regional Operations Room active 24 hours a day and monitor public green spaces and structures exposed to the stress of winds and wave motion.
At the moment, at the request of the Municipality of Barano d'Ischia, volunteers from the regional Civil Protection, activated and coordinated by the Operations Room are supporting the local authorities for the floods that are affecting the Testaccio area.
