De Canio remembers 'his' Count: "He said right away that he would become one of the greats"

Luigi De Canio, former Siena coach, paid tribute to current Napoli manager Antonio Conte, recalling his early coaching career and the incredible determination that characterized him even then. During the 2006/2007 season, De Canio chose Conte as his assistant at Siena, a pivotal moment for the former player, who had recently hung up his boots.

"Antonio had recently stopped playing, Ventrone had proposed him to me, and I wanted to take advantage of all his experience as a footballer.", De Canio told the microphones of TGR Campania.

"It was clear from the start that he had technical knowledge that would lead the way. I wanted to learn from him as much as he was learning from his new role as coach."

One memory in particular remained etched in De Canio's memory: "His great determination was evident. From the first days he told me that he would become one of the great coaches and that one day he would coach the Juventus. I never had any doubts that he would make it."
