A 57-year-old woman originally from Naples, who lived for a period in the province of Rimini and worked as a maid, is accused of stealing gold and precious objects from the villa where she worked in Misano Adriatico.
According to local press reports, the episode dates back to August last year, when the owner of the villa, an entrepreneur, reported the theft to the Carabinieri of Misano Adriatico.
The woman, who had returned to Naples in the meantime, was tracked down there, where the military found part of the stolen goods, mainly gold and jewels that had disappeared from the villa.
Reported for theft and receiving stolen goods, the 57-year-old will now face charges related to the theft from the home of her temporary employer. The Carabinieri, under the direction of the Rimini Public Prosecutor's Office, collected evidence that led to the woman.
Other valuables of dubious origin were found in the house
During a search of her home, part of the loot was found , as well as other valuables of dubious origin and a considerable sum of money, for which the suspect was unable to provide a plausible explanation.
In total, we are talking about over 20 kilos of gold, with an estimated value of over 2 million. The recovered material was returned to its rightful owner, while other goods were seized.
