Two Neapolitan men, aged 31 and 38, were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Alessandria branch of the Carabinieri following a series of scams and robberies across Italy, committed while disguised as couriers. Their last operation dates back to last April, when they attacked a gas station on Lungo Tanaro in Alessandria. One of the men, wearing the uniform of a well-known shipping company, showed up at the gas station demanding money for a non-existent delivery and threatening the 75-year-old gas station attendant at gunpoint. After obtaining the money, the robber fled in a dark-colored car driven by his accomplice.
Despite the presence of video surveillance cameras, the investigation proved complex. The two criminals constantly changed cars and methods of action, making it difficult to track them down. However, thanks to hours of image analysis and testimonies collected, the carabinieri were able to reconstruct their movements.
The two were finally identified and traced in Emilia-Romagna, in the area of Sassuolo, and were arrested in Vignola, in the Modena province, while preparing for another heist. The 31-year-old was placed in handcuffs and transferred to prison, while his 38-year-old accomplice was ordered to remain in Naples. The arrest marks the end of a series of scams and robberies that had swept across the peninsula, sowing fear among business owners and the elderly.
