2027 Champions League Final – Azerbaijan and Spain have submitted their bids to host the 2027 men's Champions League final, after UEFA reopened the bidding process for the prestigious football event. The two cities in the running are Baku, with its Olympic Stadium, and Madrid, which is proposing the Estadio Metropolitano. Last Wednesday, UEFA officially announced the nominations, indicating that final proposals must be submitted by March 19. The final decision on who will host the match will be announced in May.

The reopening of the final bid came after UEFA's executive committee chose not to award the event to the historic San Siro stadium in Milan. Milan authorities had requested an extension to demonstrate the stadium's readiness, despite planned renovations for the 2026 Winter Olympics and the 2032 European Championship. However, they failed to provide the necessary guarantees.

Baku already has some experience in hosting high-level football events, having hosted European Championship matches in 2021 and the Europa League final in 2019, when Chelsea faced Arsenal. On the other hand, Madrid's Metropolitano has already hosted the final of Champions League in 2019, in which Liverpool defeated Tottenham by a score of 2-0.

In addition to the bids for the men's final, UEFA has announced that four cities are in the running to host the Women's Champions League final in 2027: Warsaw (Poland), Barcelona (Spain), Basel (Switzerland) and Cardiff (Wales). The interest in both events underlines the growing importance of football globally and the commitment of several cities to host the sport's most prestigious events.
