Francis Mute, an 84-year-old 'ndrangheta boss originally from Cetraro, in the province of Cosenza, has been returned to prison. Known by the nickname "the fish king" for his control of the fish trade, Muto had been under house arrest for health reasons, granted by the Sassari surveillance court about a year ago, when he was detained in the Tempio Pausania prison.
The Surveillance Court of Catanzaro, presided over by Francesca Marrazzo, has decided to revoke this benefit, considering that Muto's health conditions are now compatible with the prison regime, on the advice of the Attorney General. Consequently, Muto he was transferred to prison Secondigliano in Naples.
Sentenced in 2016 to 20 years in prison for mafia-type criminal association, Muto still has over ten years of his sentence to serve. His lawyer, Michele Rizzo, has already filed an appeal with the Court of Supreme Court against the decision of the Surveillance Court of Catanzaro.
