Friarielli, a symbol of Campania cuisine, become an IGP product, the recognition process begins: the project was presented at the Real Sito di Carditello

Exported to over 80 countries, friarielli are not only a specialty loved by Neapolitans but appreciated all over the world. To enhance the product, the aim is now to obtain the PGI denomination.

Friarielli, a symbol of Campania cuisine with an unmistakable flavour, form a perfect pair with sausage, constituting one of the most beloved dishes of the Neapolitan gastronomic tradition.

This vegetable, which in the past was considered a poor product, has also gained a prominent place in street food and pizzerias.

Today, Neapolitan friarielli are exported to over 80 countries and continue to conquer the palates of lovers of good food. To promote and enhance this traditional product, the Valfit project (Enhancement of Neapolitan Friariello between Innovation and Tradition) was born, which aims to obtain recognition of the IGP denomination to protect and further enhance this excellence of Campania.

The project was presented at the Real Sito di Carditello, in the province of Caserta, in the presence of producers, processors, and researchers. The goal is ambitious: not only to promote the nutritional characteristics and typicality of Neapolitan friariello, but also to encourage the use of modern agricultural practices while respecting tradition.

Thanks to these initiatives, friariello has transformed from a poor vegetable to a flagship product of regional and international cuisine.

Funded by the Campania Region through the Rural Development Program 2014-2022, Valfit aims to create a solid production chain, involving local farmers and processors.

There are many production areas in Campania

Today, the main production areas of friarielli are the Caserta plain, the Naples area and the Vesuvian areas, but also Avellino, Benevento and the Sele plain, in the Salerno area.

Thanks to its nutritional properties, rich in antioxidants, fiber and vitamins, Neapolitan friariello represents a real panacea, and the Valfit project intends to make it a symbol of Campania throughout the world, enhancing not only its taste but also the history and culture it carries.
