Castellammare. An investigation has been opened into the attack on the young foreigner by a group of young people on the CassaArmonica in the municipal villa of Castellammare with videos spread in the chats.
Article Key Points
The young man who was attacked had to seek medical care from the emergency room at San Leonardo Hospital. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, when the foreigner was surrounded by a dozen young men who kicked, punched and slapped him, almost killing him.
What is shocking is that the attack occurred in front of hundreds of people who watched without intervening or at most recording everything with their cell phones.
Among the videos circulating in chats, there is also one of a very young man from Castellammare di Stabia, who comments with his friends: 'Did you see the kick he gave him?'. And another responds: 'They broke him'”.
but there are also those who justify the violence because the foreigner, it seems, was wandering around drunk in the municipal villa bothering people and was attacked after an argument with some boys.
The bishop: “Unacceptable violence”
"Violence is ugly, unacceptable, unworthy of being human. The indifference of passers-by, the offensive and brutal sarcasm of those who are contentedly watching the scene as if they were at the cinema, the anonymity of a city that continues to shine its night lights without stopping and blushing in the face of such serious episodes of incivility, are even more painful."
This is what the bishop of the diocese of Sorrento-Castellammare di Stabia, Francesco Alfano, wrote in an open letter addressed to the young Bangladeshi beaten by the gang, to whom the bishop asks “sorry for what happened to you.”
“Dearest Bangladeshi brother,” added Monsignor Alfano, “I hope to embrace you soon to make you feel the warmth and affection of so many who, like me and more than me, are ready to love you and, some with tears in their eyes, even to ask your forgiveness.”
“Many times, passing through the old center of our beautiful and dramatic city, I see other people like you,” writes the bishop. “I often wonder how you live, where you found lodging, if you have friends with whom you can spend your free time or confide some sorrow of the heart.
But when I had the chance to talk to some people from your land I discovered the richness and depth of those who were forced to leave their people to look for work in distant places. Yes, it's true: we believe we are so 'far away' that sometimes we fail to recognize the richness hidden in our diversity.
I know that among us there are many men and women who recognize you as one of us, as a 'brother'. And for this reason I hope you will soon meet someone with whom you can walk a stretch of the road together and no longer feel alone, singled out, a stranger”.
Mayor Vicinanza: “It is an act that leaves no excuses”
even the mayor from Castellammare di Stabia, Louis Proximity, intervenes in relation to the beating suffered by a Bangladeshi citizen. "What happened Sunday evening in Villa Comunale leaves no excuses: a vile and unjustifiable act by a group that acted with pack logic. This episode represents a wound for our entire community and the symbol of blind aggression that must be firmly condemned."
“However, this is not the only disturbing aspect of this story – he adds – What is most disturbing and embittering is the indifference of those who witnessed the violence without intervening or asking for help. Some young people even filmed the scene, indirectly participating in what I consider a manifestation of inhumanity, something that has no place in our Castellammare.
Incidents like this highlight the need to ensure greater security and control."
"For this reason, I appeal to the competent authorities to ensure a more effective presence of the police forces on our territory. We cannot allow violence to become part of everyday life.“, concludes the mayor.
