Naples.
She came back home Moraine, the 16-year-old victim of a street criminal. After four months in the hospital, she returned to her own leg, the only one she had left because, as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident, the girl had to have one lower limb removed and risked losing the other one as well.
The accident in via Pietro Castellino, the heart of the Vomero: Morena was hit by a car while riding a scooter with a friend. A reckless overtaking, done at high speed and invading the opposite lane, turned the young woman's existence upside down.
The impact was very violent: the scooter was thrown away, leaving Morena seriously injured.
Rushed to the hospital, the girl fought between life and death for four long months. The injuries she suffered were very serious: her left lower limb was amputated and she risked losing the other one. Despite intensive care and her extraordinary willpower, Morena's life changed forever.
“It is unacceptable that a young person should face such an ordeal,” said MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. “Morena has returned home, but she carries with her the burden of an experience that has marked her deeply. Her story is a warning to all of us: we must do more to make our streets safe.”
Morena's story is a call to responsibility for each of us. It is an invitation to reflect on our driving habits and to always choose prudence. Only in this way can we avoid other tragedies from happening again.
