Napoli, Neres energized – Napoli attacking midfielder David Neres is preparing with determination for the upcoming match against Lecce. Speaking to Radio Crc, the Brazilian said: “We are ready to maintain the lead, aware of the tough matches that await us. But now we only focus on Lecce on Saturday”.
Having arrived in Serie A this year, Neres admitted to being impressed by the level of the Italian championship: “From my first match I was shocked by the intensity and tactical level of Serie A. This is why I pay extreme attention to the video sessions with Mister Conte, so I can improve from a tactical point of view and perform at my best”.
The Brazilian talent revealed the secret behind his speed: “We train every day with the athletic trainers on specific sprint exercises. Since I don’t have many minutes on the pitch, I can give my best in those moments.” As for dribbling, Neres does not hide his sources of inspiration: “I study videos of Ronaldinho and Messi every day. They are the ones who inspire me in this aspect.”
Looking back on his past, the player recalled his formative years at Ajax: “I got there very young, around 19-20, and it was fundamental for my development. At Ajax they have great patience with young players, and it was a crucial part of my development.”
Neres also spoke about the possibility of a return to the Brazilian national team, but keeps the focus on the present: “My goal is to work hard for Napoli, the club is my 100% priority. Napoli has a big impact in Brazil, it is seen as one of the great Italian clubs. Being the thirty-first Brazilian to play here makes me proud and I hope to open the door for many other Brazilians”.
Finally, a word about Vinicius Jr. and Kvaratskhelia. On the first, Neres is categorical: “Vinicius deserves the Ballon d’Or. I don’t see any player better than him at the moment.” On Kvara, Neres he concluded with great admiration: "Everyone thinks he's a top player. After seeing him on the pitch and in training, there's no other possible answer."
