The municipal administration of Napoli has implemented a series of concrete initiatives to improve the safety of the city.
Thanks to a €2 million loan from the Security Fund, 108 new surveillance cameras will be installed in various areas, with particular attention to the suburbs and the most critical areas such as Mercato, Porta Nolana, Porta Capuana, Piazza Garibaldi and Corso Lucci.
This enhancement of the video surveillance system will allow for more effective monitoring of the territory and faster action by the police in case of need.
At the same time, the city administration has allocated additional funds for targeted interventions on road safety. Speed bumps, smart traffic lights and other traffic calming measures will be installed in key areas of the city, such as San Erasmo, Monteoliveto and Corso Garibaldi. The aim is to reduce speed and prevent accidents, especially in areas most frequented by pedestrians and cyclists.
A key role will be played by awareness campaigns, aimed in particular at young people. Through projects in schools and the use of testimonials, we will try to promote responsible driving behavior and to make people understand the importance of respecting road rules.
The Councilor for Legality Antonio De Iesu spoke at La Notizia in Comune, the web TV of the MAx Adv Production, available from Monday on the platform www.lanotiziaincomune.it, informing of the next steps of the Municipality of Naples on the topic of legality.
“I am pleased that Naples has left the top ten of the cities with the highest crime rate – he said in an interview with the host, Matilde Andolfo – it was a stereotype. It was the lack of awareness that the city is transforming. We are certainly not in Oslo but it is a job that is slowly bearing fruit”.
The engine is "tourism that is generating wealth, modest but wealth. The tourist is no longer seen as prey but as a resource and the tourist can walk with the desire to fully experience the beauties and peculiarities of the city, the most romantic aspects".
Security and cameras: “We have obtained 2 million euros from the Security Fund for a video surveillance project that we have already approved. The tender will start soon and fills many gaps in the surveillance systems especially in peripheral municipalities. Today in the Council we approved a project that allows us to request funding of another million.
Work will begin soon in each municipality for about one million euros. There will be funding to manage the maintenance of public buildings (social housing). We have asked for 20 million for the roads. An analysis of the accident area to then make a cabin on what measures are needed to reduce the danger: speed bumps and traffic lights first and foremost. The need is for everyone to get involved”. For this reason, an awareness campaign: “Legality cannot be taught, consciences can be raised as with road safety. If a child sees their parents wearing a seat belt or helmet, that behavior will be ordinary for the child. We want to present a project in schools to bring a method of awareness that is not just talking. To make people understand that if I drive under the influence of alcohol and drugs I have personal damage with a testimonial: If the message comes from a peer, that message is powerful”.
Furthermore, “in the school commission, discussions have been started with the presidents of the municipalities to find out which schools are in greatest need of a service in the morning”. Finally, crime.
On the incidents involving Napoli players: “There is no strategy. Juan Jesus was hit in his privacy but he could have better distinguished the scum of crime from the city that welcomed him with love. Scampia has been reborn and now the Camorra no longer has the consensus it had nurtured in the past. In 2011 the Municipal Police had 2300 employees, today it has 1240. For Christmas another 60 police officers will be added who, even if not perfectly trained, will be able to free up resources for the most critical areas”. Finally the appeal: “We need to cultivate education in legality and the first level is the family with the example, virtuous behavior. We seized fifty electric scooters that were not electric. Who bought them for these kids?”
