The mayor of Nola, Carlo Buonauro, resigned following an investigation conducted by the television program “Le Iene” regarding an alleged case of vote-buying that occurred during the 2022 elections.
The investigation has shaken the entire municipal administration. In the previous days, councilor Maria Rosaria Galeota had renounced her delegation, followed by councilors Lucianna Bruscino Napolitano and Giovanni Carrella this afternoon.
In the afternoon, around 16 pm, Mayor Buonauro sent a letter to the city council, explaining the reasons for his decision.
He stated that “the conditions to proceed usefully do not exist” despite the positive results achieved in various sectors, including public works, environment, culture, social and financial recovery. He also underlined the lack of correctness and trust in relations with the majority coalition, and the absence of real electoral support, perhaps due to his character limitations.
Buonauro then criticized the hostile attitude of the minority and the poor harmony within the majority, factors that contributed to his decision.
The mayor now has twenty days to withdraw his resignation and remain in office.
