It was named after Francesco Pio Maimone, an innocent victim of crime, the House of Culture and Youth of Pianura.
The young man, just 18 years old, was tragically killed on March 20, 2023 by gunshots fired during a brawl in Mergellina, while he was spending an evening with friends. Francesco, born and raised in Pianura, dreamed of becoming a pizza chef and one day opening his own business.On the entrance gate of the facility, some banners remember the young man with touching messages such as: “In every thought of ours, there is always a place for you” e “Justice for Kekko”. During the ceremony, the boy's parents, Concetta Napoletano and Antonio Maimone, spoke of the pain that accompanies them every day, but also of their desire to transform that tragedy into a commitment for the future of young people. "We have a duty and responsibility towards the memory of our son and towards all young people. The institutions have been close to us and today, by naming this structure after Francesco Pio, we hope that many projects for young people can be realized here", the mother declared.
La Casa della Cultura e dei Giovani di Pianura, parte della rete dei Centri giovanili del Comune di Napoli, è stata dedicata a Francesco Pio su iniziativa della presidente del Consiglio comunale, Enza Amato, e del consigliere Fulvio Fucito. “With this dedication we do not only want to remember Francesco Pio, but also to ensure that his name becomes a symbol of culture, beauty and legality”, underlined President Amato.
During the ceremony, the students of the comprehensive institute “Cortese Rodinò Scialoja” of Barra performed a piece of music in memory of the young man. The Councilor for Youth Policies, Chiara Marciani, highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young people, announcing the intention to start a course for pizza makers, inspired by the dream of Francesco Pio: “We hope that this project can offer some young people in the neighborhood a better future, perhaps staying here, in their city.”
The ceremony was attended by numerous personalities, including the prefect of Naples Michele di Bari, the president of the Municipality Andrea Saggiomo, the MEP Francesco Emilio Borrelli and Don Maurizio Patriciello. The event represented a moment of deep reflection and hope for a community that gathers around the memory of an innocent young man, with the commitment to build a safer and more just future for all the children of the neighborhood.
