Antonio Pace, president of the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, challenges Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi: "While we're discussing abstract art installations in Piazza Municipio, why not highlight a tangible and universally recognized symbol of our city?"
Pizza, a UNESCO intangible heritage, is much more than just food: it is a cultural icon, an expression of our history and our identity. Lello Esposito's work, a sculpture depicting a Margherita pizza, would be a perfect tribute to this product that has conquered the world.
It is a work that speaks directly to the hearts of Neapolitans and all those who love our city. Unlike other works of art, more subjective and open to interpretation, pizza is a universal language, understood by all, without the need for explanations.
It is a unique opportunity to create a point of reference for tourists and for Neapolitans themselves, a place to celebrate our culinary tradition. We have already offered to donate the work to the Municipality, also paying the installation costs.
The time has come to give a concrete response to this proposal and to make Piazza Municipio an even more representative place of our city".
The provocation comes about a week after the installation of Gaetano Pesce's Pulcinella in Piazza Municipio, which so divided Neapolitan citizens and beyond.

It would be nice to see a sculpture representing pizza, such an important symbol for Naples.
Interesting proposal to enhance pizza, but we must also consider the opinions of citizens before making a decision.
