The city of Salerno is preparing to welcome a new group of migrants, expected tomorrow at the port of Salerno.
“At the moment there are no reports of particular critical issues regarding health conditions,” Mayor Vincenzo Napoli said this morning during an initiative at the Chamber of Commerce. “As always,” the mayor continued, “the Municipality will supervise all operations to ensure maximum safety.
The Municipality of Salerno, with the Department of Social Policies, will welcome these migrants with humanity and efficiency. We will be ready on the dock to alleviate the suffering of these transits”.
"We held yesterday - specified the prefect Francesco Esposito - an organizational meeting as usual. The ship will dock tomorrow at 13:30 p.m., although the time could vary. There are 41 people on board; of these, 28 are unaccompanied foreign minors.
We have checked all the services needed to welcome people, both in the first phase and in a subsequent one. They will all remain in Campania, so that they are not subject to further transfers within the national territory”. As for their health conditions, at the moment “little is known.
However, we know that there are the usual traumas related to the experiences they live at the time of departure, during the sea crossing and upon arrival. Consequently, there will certainly be cases of burns and someone will need psychological support.
We, as always, are very attentive to unaccompanied foreign minors. We have also recently signed an agreement with all the institutions to create an additional support network, trying to offer minors a perspective of integration, insertion, inclusion and assistance that is specific and targeted. But above all, that sees the contribution of all the institutions that can help make the reception more effective”.
