Torre Annunziata. “The current management has never received extortion requests; we saved Savoia and the good name of Torre Annunziata by taking over the club, which was targeted by the Camorra.”
Thus the company Savoia 1908 Football Club intervenes, in a note, on the investigation of the police and of the DDA, which led to thearrest of five alleged affiliates of the Gionta clan, believed by investigators to be involved in extortion demands to the company's managers at the time, precisely in August 2022.
In a statement signed by the legal representative of the Savoy, Arcangelo Sessa, strongly reiterates that "no one will be allowed to approach our company, nor will episodes of this type be repeated", underlining that we are in a preliminary phase of the investigation, "but if these facts were confirmed, they would be very serious".
"Our company - it reads - has been working since December 2022 to restore the image that Savoia deserves and remove any association with the Camorra which, unfortunately, has devastated this city. We will continue to carry forward a clean football project, taking kids off the streets with our Academy, which already has over 250 members, and we will do everything we can to ensure that similar episodes are not repeated".
The press release continues by highlighting the importance of justice and the work of the police forces in the area: "What has been reported concerns the past of the Savoy Football and situations that must not happen again, but if it happens again, you must not be afraid and report it immediately.
We have snatched this team from the hands of the Camorra, as also recalled by Emanuele Filiberto in a recent press release, and we will continue with our project to contribute to the redemption of the city and the entire territory".
