It is a bitter but true and real reflection from Nicola Gratteri, head of the Naples Prosecutor's Office.
He spoke of the weakness of journalists and magistrates themselves. He did so today in Lodi, where he attended a presentation of his latest book, "2Il Grifone."
"Today, even with the latest reform, it's impossible to provide information. And journalists are also to blame: when the Cartabia reform was implemented, it seems to me they didn't go to the Justice Commission to explain their reasons. Today, journalists are as weak as magistrates."
These are the words of the head of the Neapolitan prosecutor's office, who has always been very attentive to information issues.

"We magistrates," he added, "have little credibility, we're weak, so politics has become organized. And the press today is weak because many newspaper owners lack the soul of journalism. There's no fire for information, for knowledge."
POI Gratteri He also emphasized the importance of having values. "In recent decades, there has been a decline in morality and ethics: there's no shame left, no shame left. If I import cocaine, my problem is no longer getting rich, but justifying my enrichment."
And finally, a thought on wiretaps. "Wiretaps are costly. For example, we, as the Naples prosecutor's office, spent €5 million in 2023 on wiretaps, and consequently seized assets worth over €250 million."

It is a very interesting speech and, unfortunately, too true. Let's hope that things can improve in the future.
