Punitive Expedition in Bellizzi Prison – The Avellino Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the violent incident that occurred on Tuesday, October 22, in Bellizzi Prison, where a 25-year-old inmate from the Naples area was the victim of a brutal attack. He was stabbed and mutilated by a group of nine inmates who, after kidnapping two prison officers, attacked him in his cell.

According to initial reconstructions, the inmates involved, coming from a different section than the victim, first blocked and beat two officers on duty, stealing their keys to gain access to the section where the 25-year-old was held. Once they reached the cell, the young man was hit with slashes to the arms, legs, chest and abdomen, and in the violence an earlobe was cut off. The inmate also suffered a serious head trauma and was immediately transported in red code to the Moscati Hospital in Avellino, where he underwent delicate neurosurgical surgery.

The judicial authorities, led by the prosecutor Domenico Airoma, are investigating the circumstances of the attack, hypothesizing that it was a “punitive expedition” linked to internal rivalries between groups of inmates. Investigators do not exclude a connection with another violent episode that occurred in the same ward a few days earlier, between Saturday and Sunday, in which another inmate was injured.

Investigations are underway to identify all those responsible for this violent attack, while the 25-year-old is fighting for his life in the hospital's intensive care unit. The tension inside the penitentiary institute Bellizzi remains high, and the investigation will have to clarify the reasons for this escalation of violence between prisoners.
