In the Campi Flegrei area, a magnitude 20.53 earthquake was recorded by the Vesuvius Observatory of the INGV at 2.3 pm. The seismic event was felt in the western districts of Naples.
Many on social media reported feeling the tremor in the neighborhoods of Pianura, Agnano, but also in Marano. The seismic event was also preceded by a loud roar.
Today, promptly at 17.00:XNUMX p.m., the alarm message required by the exercise for volcanic risk in the Campi Flegrei appeared on all active cell phones in Campania, specifying that it is only a test.
It was strange to witness the simultaneous reception of the message, especially in crowded places, where everyone stopped for a few seconds to read the unusual alert message. The IT-alert marks the simulation of the transition to the alarm phase for imminent eruption.
The text, also in English, states that it is a test message and that “a simulation of possible volcanic activity in Campi Flegrei is underway”. Tomorrow, the civil protection exercise includes the assisted removal of the population, on a voluntary basis.
The national exercise for volcanic risk is scheduled for tomorrow and the day after in the Campi Flegrei area, which concerns the areas that are in the red zone.
