On October 18, 2024, the TRAM theater will kick off its 2024/25 season with the debut of a unique play entitled "A Useless Hero." The project celebrates the life and sacrifice of Giacomo Matteotti, the Socialist MP assassinated in 1924 on the orders of Benito Mussolini. On stage, actor Francesco Luongo will portray a wide array of characters, recreating the complex narrative woven by Mirko Di Martino under the masterful direction of Titti Nuzzolese. Through a narrative blending emotion and irony, the play explores Matteotti's historical significance, highlighting the brutality and arrogance of his assassins, while striving to present a more nuanced and authentic vision of the man, one hundred years after his death.
The Dedication to Memory and Education
Despite the closure of its performances at the TRAM on October 27, 2024, the show "A Useless Hero" will continue as an educational project. The production has received support from the "Presidency of the Council of Ministers - Mission Structure for National Anniversaries and National and International Sporting Events" to tour 16 schools in Campania free of charge. This effort aims to further raise awareness of Matteotti, a figure of vital importance to the history of Italian democracy.
