On October 18, 2024, the TRAM theater will kick off its 2024/25 season with the debut of an extraordinary play entitled “A useless hero".
The initiative celebrates the life and sacrifice of Giacomo Matteotti, the socialist deputy assassinated in 1924 on the orders of Benito Mussolini. On stage, actor Francesco Luongo will play a wide array of characters, recreating the complex narrative woven by Mirko Di Martino under the masterful direction of Titti Nuzzolese. Dedication to Memory and Education
Despite the closure of its performances at the TRAM on October 27, 2024, the life of the show “A Useless Hero” will continue in an educational project. The production, in fact, has received the support of the “Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Mission Structure for National Anniversaries and National and International Sports Events” to be performed for free around 16 schools in Campania. This effort aims to further spread knowledge of Matteotti, a figure of vital importance to the history of Italian democracy.

The creative process behind “A Useless Hero” was intense for both the director and the actor. Francesco Luongo, the sole protagonist of the play, said he was deeply honored to tell a story that is more relevant than ever today. Titti Nuzzolese, the director, shared her deep emotional involvement in doing justice to the complex humanity of Matteotti, a man whose feelings, hopes and fears are highlighted to offer a complete and compelling narrative.
