Her name is Valeria Vertaglio and she was 43 years old: she is the twenty-first victim of the road in Naples in this dramatic 2024.

She was hit this morning in Via Brin near the well-known parking lot after taking her children to school.

The father, upon hearing the news, was struck by illness and is hospitalized at the Ospedale del Mare for observation.

The impact with a Fiat Panda, driven by a 22-year-old who was travelling in the bus lane, was extremely violent: the woman was thrown several metres and unfortunately there was nothing that could be done.

The driver, in a state of shock, was taken to the hospital and subjected to toxicological tests. The local police seized the vehicle and began an investigation.

Another victim of crazy speed

The tragedy comes amid growing concerns about road safety in Naples. Just a few days ago, a demonstration was held to remember Kekko and Lucia, two young victims of a scooter accident.

MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli stressed the urgency of intervention, proposing concrete measures such as:

Speed limit: Reduce the speed limit to 30 km/h in urban centres.
More severe infringements: Immediate withdrawal of the license for those who violate the speed limits.
Safer infrastructures: Installation of speed bumps and raised crosswalks.
Pedestrian protection: Greater attention to pedestrian safety, especially in busiest areas.

A Call for Responsibility

Borrelli launched an appeal for the responsibility of all road users, condemning dangerous and irresponsible behavior, such as using cell phones while driving and motorcycle stunts.

flash"We cannot continue to lose lives needlessly," the MP said. "We need a change in driving culture and tougher measures to punish those who put the lives of others at risk."
