Summit at the Prefecture Naples – An urgent meeting chaired by Prefect Michele di Bari was held at the Prefecture to address the serious safety problems along the Strada Statale 366 SP Agerolina. The arterial road, which passes through the center of Pimonte, is frequently used by heavy vehicles, resulting in a high risk of accidents, especially for pedestrians and city traffic. The meeting was attended by the mayor of Pimonte, Francesco Somma, the president of the city council, and representatives of the police forces, including the State Police, the Carabinieri, the Highway Police and the Metropolitan City.
Mayor Somma has requested “extraordinary and urgent interventions for safety”, especially considering the presence of a school along the stretch of road in question, where the lack of sidewalks puts students, parents and school staff at risk. In the last ten years, in fact, three fatal accidents have occurred caused by heavy vehicles, which cannot be diverted onto other roads due to the lack of alternative routes.
Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Infrastructure, the Municipality of PIMONTE has launched a plan for the construction of sidewalks and the elimination of architectural barriers on the critical road section. In addition, verification by the Metropolitan City is now awaited for a possible revision of the speed limits, with the aim of limiting the danger of the section.
The meeting highlighted the urgent need for an inspection to assess the feasibility of installing raised pedestrian crossings, a deterrent against high speed and aimed at improving community safety. If the results of the inspection are positive, the Municipality of Pimonte will proceed with the design of the intervention. The prefectural table confirmed that it will continue to monitor the progress of the initiatives, keeping a high level of attention on a phenomenon of road accidents that is increasingly worrying the local community.
