Naples. Circumvesuviana passengers on foot again, but this is not new in recent weeks: but this time it happened in the evening and so they were forced to walk in the dark on the tracks.
Two trains broke down, simultaneously blocking two important railway lines: the Naples-Sorrento and the Naples-Baiano, forcing travelers into yet another "pilgrimage on foot."
"October 23, 2024, will be a date destined to remain etched in the history of EAV and local public transport in Italy, unfortunately for negative reasons.", explains the Orsa Trasporti union in a note.
And then they continue: At this point, it's essential to initiate a serious discussion between the unions, company management, the Campania Region, the prefectures of the affected provinces, and commuter associations.
The aim is to identify immediate solutions to limit as much as possible the negative effects of the current situation on workers and travelers, who suffer constant inconvenience on both trains and buses.

We can no longer afford to wait or let the situation worsen further. The number of breakdowns is constantly increasing, and it's unacceptable to keep hearing company management repeat that everything will be resolved with the arrival of the new trains, without providing any guidance on how to address the current emergency.
It is critical that we understand what actions we can take now to manage the critical and potentially dangerous conditions that workers and users are forced to endure every day.
We appeal to the Campania Region, which owns EAV, to promote this discussion as soon as possible. It is urgent to intervene before the situation worsens further and more serious incidents occur, because then it will no longer be possible to call it a "tragic accident."
Travelers forced to trek between tracks at night
This is the usual bitter and ironic comment that accompanies the video of those who almost every day experience the inconveniences of travelling on the Circumvesuviana, as the commuters' committee and the managers of the Facebook page Circumvesuviana guide to cancellations and unsolved mysteries.
A train broke down in the cool shade of the (long-closed) Via Monaci station, and passengers—after more than half an hour stuck on board—had to walk across the tracks to wait for a train on the other platform. Another evening trekking session, an adventurous experience that's increasingly popular with both adults and children.
