A new incident of copper theft and vandalism has hit the Benevento-Cancello railway line, according to the Ente Autonomo Volturno. Last night, unknown individuals committed acts of vandalism and copper theft, damaging equipment on the new ACCM/SCMT railway signaling system.
Damage along the railway line
The company announced that the thefts and damages affected the new level crossing systems located between the Santa Maria a Vico and Cancello stations. These systems are at the heart of a railway modernization project aimed at improving safety and efficiency.
Commitment to recovery
The transport company, EAV, and the contractor are working hard to reopen the line and limit the negative effects of these incidents. The company emphasizes that these actions entail additional costs and slow down the process of restoring the equipment already installed, causing not only financial but also operational disruption.

It is sad to see how people can damage things that are useful to everyone. The money spent on repairs could be better used elsewhere, perhaps to further improve services.
I agree with Irene, infrastructure safety is essential for public transportation. I wonder if there are better safety measures to be implemented to prevent these incidents.
The situation of copper theft and vandalism is really worrying, especially because it damages an important service for everyone. I hope that it can be resolved quickly, even if the costs are high.
