Benevento. The preliminary hearing before preliminary hearing judge Pietro Vinetti, originally scheduled for the forty-seven people involved in the counterfeit money investigation, has been postponed to April 4, 2025 due to notification issues.
The investigation, led by prosecutor Flavia Felaco, attracted media attention in July 2020, when the Carabinieri executed an order – later overturned – relating to alleged trafficking of counterfeit banknotes and coins both in Italy and abroad.
Among the suspects are six Samnites: Franco Domenico De Iasio, 73 years old, from Benevento; his son Gerardo, 39 years old; his brother Gerardo, 60 years old, resident in Altavilla Irpina; Pellegrino Coppolaro, 53 years old, from Montesarchio; Pompeo Masone, 59 years old, from San Giorgio del Sannio; and Vincenzina Taddeo, 55 years old, also from San Giorgio del Sannio.
Franco De Iasio is believed to be the creator of an alleged transnational criminal association, aimed at the production, distribution and introduction on the market of counterfeit coins. counterfeit money would have been distributed in Sannio and Lombardy. Furthermore, De Iasio is accused of being the promoter of another group, involved in the receipt of watermarked paper and in the search for printers for the production of counterfeit banknotes.
