A great footballer at the helm of the Italian Football Federation. This was the theme Bruno Giordano addressed, speaking on the sidelines of the "Beppe Viola" award. The former Lazio and Napoli striker commented on the possibility of Alessandro Del Piero's candidacy for the presidency of the FIGC, calling it an exciting opportunity for the renewal of Italian football.
"It would be a breath of fresh air to have a great footballer at the head of the federation. No one is infallible, but perhaps the time has come for figures with a distinguished background on the pitch to run for president. Del Piero seems worthy of the task.", Giordano declared.
According to the former footballer, Del Piero's background would make him particularly suited to the role: "In terms of football management, he knows more than many others. In Italy, however, it's difficult to place players who have been on the pitch in certain positions. There's a tendency to reward those who are off the pitch. Del Piero, on the other hand, has proven to be impeccable both on and off the pitch, and this is a point in his favor."

Giordano then reflected on the less fortunate experiences of former footballers such as Gianni Rivera and Roberto Baggio within the FIGC: "They didn't have leading roles. When a player realizes he can't make the final decision, he takes a step back. Representing the presidency, however, is different: you have a greater opportunity to have an impact."
Finally, Giordano underlined the importance of involving figures who know the world of football from the inside: "Football, as I see it, should also be managed by those who have experienced the dressing room, those who know the mentality of the players. Of course, there are administrative dynamics to manage, but Del Piero It seems to me to be fully up to the task. It would be positive news.”

I also believe that it is essential to have someone with experience in football, but it is not enough to have a glorious past to manage a federation. You need vision and decision-making ability.
Del Piero's proposal as president of the FIGC is interesting, but there are doubts whether he is really the right person. His experience is important, but Italian football needs profound renewal and not just famous names.
