This morning the State Police of Cagliari executed a custodial order issued by the investigating judge of the Sardinian capital against a 28-year-old Neapolitan, accused of aggravated extortion and self-laundering to the detriment of elderly people, using the "fake carabiniere" technique.
The two elderly victims had turned to the authorities after being forced to hand over money and jewellery with a total value of over 150 thousand euros to people who, after a telephone call from a fake policeman or police commissioner, police, had shown up at their home.
In the meantime, the man had managed to leave the island. The Police continued their investigations, analyzing the images from the video surveillance systems in the area and checking the local gold-buying shops, where the man allegedly sold part of the extorted jewelry to obtain cash.
The investigators of the Naples Flying Squad finally managed to track him down at his home in Afragola and take him to prison.
