Train conductor stabbed – It is a day of protest and disruption for rail transport in Italy, with a wave of cancellations and delays that has affected numerous routes and trains. The national strike of the staff of Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper, Fs Security, Italo Ntv and Trenord, which began this morning at 9 am, will last for eight hours, until 17 pm. The mobilization was proclaimed by the unions Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Fast Confsal and Orsa Trasporti, following the attack suffered by a train conductor on a regional train Genoa-Busalla, near Rivarolo station. Despite the appeal of the Guarantor of Rights, who invited the unions to reduce the duration of the strike, the protest was confirmed in its entirety.
The consequences of the strike were felt immediately, with numerous trains cancelled and significant delays in the main Italian stations. At Milano Centrale, high-speed trains suffered a heavy setback, with cancellations on the 9:58, 11:25 and 11:58 trains to Naples, and on the 11:10 train to Turin. Regional connections were not spared either: trains to Brescia, Bergamo, Tirano and even the 11:10 international connection to Zurich were cancelled. Trains to Malpensa airport were also blocked, with departures cancelled at both 10:25 and 10:55.
Roma Termini is also facing major disruptions. Arriving and departing trains are accumulating delays ranging from 10 to 70 minutes. Some connections have been cancelled, such as the Italo train to Milan at 10:05, the Intercity to Trieste at 10:22 and the regional train to Civitavecchia at 10:42.
While railway personnel express solidarity with their assaulted colleague and demand greater safety measures on board trains, travellers are dealing with serious inconveniences throughout the country. The mobilisation has brought a good part of Italian rail transport to its knees, highlighting once again the urgency of guaranteeing greater protection and safety for those who work and travel on trains.
