The nurses at Bellizzi prison have been in a state of agitation since November 10, exasperated by working conditions that are now considered unsustainable. Among the main critical issues reported is the lack of staff: currently, only two nurses are called to guarantee health care for 600 inmates, a situation that has prompted the Nursind union to launch an urgent appeal to the prefect of Avellino and the heads of the ASL.
Despite the ongoing protest, according to Michele Rosapane, representative of Nursind of Avellino, "all is silent". No summons has yet arrived from the prefect, and the ASL has not provided any feedback. "Maybe they think the workers don't even deserve an answer.", writes Rosapane in a note, denouncing a clear disinterest on the part of the health authority.

The critical issues reported do not stop at the lack of staff. Nurses report the lack of water during the night, which prevents not only hand washing but also the use of toilets, creating an alarming hygienic situation for both workers and inmates. As if that were not enough, the few changing rooms available are insufficient, and the lockers for staff have been placed in the same room where special waste is stored, a highly risky and unacceptable practice for health and safety.
"We believe these working conditions are no longer tolerable.", continues Rosapane. "Taking into account the high risk for the safety and health of workers, if no concrete answers are received, we will not hesitate to involve the Public Prosecutor's Office in Avellino".

This is a situation that can no longer be tolerated, two nurses for 600 inmates is a ridiculous number, especially in such precarious hygienic conditions. We hope that the prefect will take these complaints seriously.
