A major operation by the Carabinieri in central Naples: officers from the Reggio Calabria Provincial Command, with the support of their Neapolitan colleagues, dismantled a veritable "fraud hub."
The base of operations was located near Porta San Gennaro, but the fraudulent activities extended throughout Southern Italy. The investigation was triggered by a tip from the Reggio Calabria Carabinieri following a scam that occurred last May in San Giorgio Morgeto, a small town in the province of Reggio Calabria.
In the crosshairs are two criminals who, with the now well-known method of the "false carabiniere", had deceived aold woman, 100% disabled, convincing her to hand over all the jewelry she kept in her house.

The scammers had staged a fake car accident involving the woman's nephew, asking for a false bail to avoid arrest.

A fatal mistake during one of their scams, the criminals made a grave error. They parked their car near a store not far from the scammer's home.
And then the car was captured by a store's security cameras. Despite the license plate being partially obscured, investigators were able to identify the vehicle thanks to careful analysis of the data and the residents' testimonies.
The victim's neighbors, noticing the suspicious presence of the two men in the previous days, provided valuable details that allowed the Carabinieri to narrow down the circle of suspects.
The searches led to the seizure of numerous cell phones and SIM cards registered to fictitious identities, demonstrating the existence of a well-organized and widespread criminal network.

What a sad story, poor old lady. It's right that they were dismantled!
How sad to hear of these people taking advantage of the kindness of others, I hope they are punished severely.
