Naples. The roof of a building located near the Secondigliano prison was used as a launch pad for drones with which the Vanella Grassi clan introduced everything into the penitentiary: from drugs, to cell phones, to SIM cards. But also luxury perfumes and other objects.

Among the twelve arrested yesterday in the Naples Flying Squad operation, coordinated by the Anti-Mafia Directorate, there were also those who used their cell phones to place orders on Amazon. The ring was led by Nico Grimaldi and Carmine Casaburi, both inmates who provided inmates with a home delivery service of all kinds from inside the prison.

State-of-the-art drones, piloted by Nicola Vellucci and launched from the Roma camp or a building across the street from the prison, defied security systems to deliver packages to cells. The investigation, conducted through wiretaps and arrests, uncovered a well-structured organization, where everyone had a specific role: Grimaldi, the boss, his mother Rita Pitirollo, his wife Addolorata De Falco, and the "drone operator" Vellucci.

On October 6th of last year Nicola Vellucci was arrested, identified as the "drone operator" who received 500 euros for each trip. The technology used was cutting-edge: the drones flew above the prison's security systems, consisting of large radar antennas, and then lowered themselves to the cell window, where an inmate was awaiting delivery.

Some intercepted conversations, published today by Il Roma, left no doubt, according to the prosecutor's office.

Here's an excerpt:

Grimaldi: "Always the same things… Listen, who's holding that 'thing' of mine? The 'toy'?" (reference to the drone, writes the prosecution). DeFalco: «Stay here». Grimaldi: «Oh, and check the batteries a little because this one is coming at five today (referring to the drone operator, ed.)». From Falco: "When I brought it, I loaded them to the max." Grimaldi: «Oh no, the last time he came he was completely exhausted… everything!».

Another interesting conversation, which took place on October 22, 2023, involves Grimaldi , mother Rita Pitirollo. Here too the drone is the main topic:

Grimaldi: «Oh dear, satisfy my curiosity… but… have you ever gone with Stefano?». Pitirollo: «Come!» (statement, ed.). Grimaldi: “When you tried this one, the last one, without GPS…” Pitirollo: «Eh! Eh!». Grimaldi: «Does a green light come on underneath?». Pitirollo: «Eh!». Grimaldi: «Okay, because that guy is fixated on holding the GPS and turning on the green light… I said: no».

This article is interesting but there are too many errors in the text. Drones bringing things into the prison is an incredible thing, but I wonder how it is possible that no one notices. It is a dangerous and worrying situation. I hope that the authorities do something more to stop these illegal activities.
