Over the past few months, Poste Italiane has intensified security training for its employees in the Campania provinces. Around 1.900 managers and counter operators have been involved in sessions aimed at preventing fraud against customers through 945 hours of training.
Particular attention was paid to the most common scam techniques, allowing participants to be prepared to deal with potential fraud attempts. Thanks to these initiatives, it was possible to prevent scams, such as those recently committed at a post office in central Naples.
Scams foiled
A recent case involved an elderly woman who, accompanied by a man, showed up to cash a money order. The woman's behavior aroused the suspicion of the clerk, who, after examining the documents with the manager, discovered that they were fake.
The Fraud Center was promptly notified, allowing the true owner of the passbook to be protected. In another incident, an elderly customer contacted the manager of his post office after receiving a call from fake operators who had almost convinced him to transfer a considerable sum. In this case too, the prompt intervention prevented a transfer of funds that would have caused serious financial loss to the customer.
Safety and prevention
To protect customers and enhance security measures, Poste Italiane has two centers dedicated to fraud prevention: the Fraud Prevention Center in Rome and the Fraud Monitoring Center in Turin. These facilities, staffed by over 100 financial security and cyber security experts, operate continuously to monitor online transactions and in over 13.000 post offices in Italy. Using advanced technologies, the centers ensure the control of suspicious transactions in the various financial areas of the group.
Poste's advice to avoid scams
Poste Italiane and PostePay never ask for confidential information, such as passwords or security codes, through phone calls, emails or other means of communication. It is crucial not to respond to suspicious communications that ask for such personal data, nor to download attachments or click on suspicious links.
It's recommended to report any phishing attempts to antiphishing@posteitaliane.it and access the official website by typing the URL directly. Using the Poste Italiane app can provide real-time notifications on financial transactions, providing an additional level of security.

The idea of training employees on security is good, but I'm not sure if it's enough to stop all scams. There are so many people trying to scam and they don't always recognize themselves right away. We need to do more.
