Parents who lose children at the hands of young criminals. Children who become delinquent, because they pay for the sins of their Camorra fathers. Two sides of the same coin that shed light on an ever-increasing phenomenon, that of youth violence that continues to claim victims.

This is the case of Francesco Pio Maimone, Giovanbattista Cutolo, Emanuele Tufano and, last in order of time, Santo Romano. Young people, indeed very young, whose lives were shattered by the blind violence of their peers or, worse, of minors who followed the wrong examples.

This will be discussed during the screening of the film "Nati pre-giudicati" by Stefano Cerbone tomorrow - at 11 a.m. - at the "Giuseppe Salvia" prison in Poggioreale. Speakers will include Deputies Gaetano Amato (who is also in the cast), Francesco Emilio Borrelli, and Daniela Di Maggio, mother of Giovanbattista Cutolo, the 24-year-old musician killed by a 17-year-old on August 3, 2023 in Piazza Municipio

. For the first time, Di Maggio will meet with inmates to discuss youth violence, preventive tools to adopt, and legislation on the matter.

"When Stefano invited me, I was initially nervous because prison is a place of pain, and not only will my son's killer end up there when he turns 21, but the two adults who contributed to Giogiò's death could also be there.

Then I asked myself: "What would Giogiò have done in my place?" He would have spoken to the hearts of these people, making them understand that society has lost a boy like him, a gold medalist for civil valor, because someone like them, living behind bars, decided to kill him. I would like to convey the message that—when you kill a person like that—you've killed an entire society. If I speak to their hearts and save even just three or four of them, maybe I'll have won."

With this meeting, the project of Cerbone, an entrepreneur originally from Secondigliano, continues, who with his film, more relevant than ever, returns to talk about detention and prevention.

The screenplay for the film, with music by Mr Hyde and Enrico Rispoli, was written by the director together with the inmates of the High Security unit of Secondigliano: a story that pushes the inmates to question their parenting and their relationship with their children who, in many cases, follow the same criminal path.

"Our goal is to raise awareness among civil society and institutions, so that we can prevent the malaise that drives these young people to commit their first crime," explains the director. "Through the film's message, we want to convey the suffering and hardship experienced by so many young people in Naples—from the city center to the suburbs—who, without realizing it, destroy their own lives and those of their peers."

Along this path Cerbone has a new project in the works: "The Origins of Evil," which will involve young inmates who—with the help of psychologists, criminologists, teachers, writers, and magistrates—will try to find answers to the many problems of adolescence that push them to the abyss.

A very sad and delicate topic, we hope that initiatives like this can contribute to raising awareness in society and preventing the phenomenon of youth violence.
