A grave loss has struck the mayor of Casalduni, in the province of Benevento: his son Gabriele, only 21 years old, died due to an illness. A tragedy that has deeply shocked the entire population of Campania.

Farewell to Gabriele

“We played it all until the end, regulation time, extra time, penalties and penalties to the bitter end as we liked, meeting the medical excellence of our hospital San Pio, Gemelli and Bambino Gesù. Now you are free to fly high like eagles do. Thank you for teaching us how to live and how to leave this earth” – is the moving message spread on social media by the young man’s father, mayor of Casalduni.

The young Gabriele was suffering from a disease that left him no escape, ending his life at only 21 years old. Today at 15 pm the funeral is scheduled at the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli. In Casalduni and Pontelandolfo a day of mourning has been proclaimed.

Solidarity from the community

“Maximum closeness to our friend Mayor Pasquale Iacovella and to his entire family who today are experiencing the devastating and unnatural loss of their son. Every avenue has been explored to save the life of this boy against whom fate has bitterly retaliated. May the earth be light upon him. The gesture of removing his organs, which will save other lives, is a gesture of extraordinary kindness and nobility of spirit by the Iacovella family” – is the note of condolence from the Mayor of Benevento, Clemente Mastella.

“Is all this really necessary for us all to stop and reflect on what life really is? No, it is not necessary. Another pure soul leaves us on this earthly life. That same soul that united us all in pain, that taught us the true values that life gives us. The importance of good and love. Our family, deeply affected, will draw the right lesson even in this great mourning. My cousin Pasquale, his wife Rossella and children Annalaura and Alessio are already doing it. Your strength is the demonstration of what true love is” – reads the post released by the victim's uncle.

In 2025, 414 homeless people will die on the streets: "An invisible massacre."

by Vincenzo Scarpa January 9, 2026 - 18:30 am 18:30

In 2025, 414 homeless people died on the streets in Italy. This number, while quiet, speaks to a continuing and silent massacre. This data emerges from the dossier "The Invisible Massacre," produced by the fio.PSD Observatory, which has been monitoring the deaths of people without adequate housing since 2020 and reconstructs a phenomenon now stabilized at over four hundred victims per year.

These deaths aren't exclusively linked to climate emergencies. The report places these deaths within a constant trend that spans the entire year. In 2025, more than half of the deaths will be concentrated between winter and spring, but the flow never stops. "Roads amplify vulnerabilities that would not be lethal under other conditions" is the central message emerging from the Observatory's analysis.
